The Scientific Department of the Sybir Memorial Museum — preparations for the EMYA2025
The Sybir Memorial Museum prepares to be a host of the EMYA2025. This time we would like to present you the Scientific Department — Research Institute of President Seweryn Nowakowski.
The Institute, based on both — own employees as well as those cooperating with, being the best professionals from Central and Eastern Europe countries, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan or other parts of world — conducts scientific research and popularizes knowledge related to the deportation topic. It refers not only to the Tsarist Russia times, but also Soviet deportations. The result of such activities is the wide range of publications — books and two journals (including scored “Borderlands History Bulletin” / Biuletyn Historii Pogranicza). The collection of deportees and their descendants’ testimonies is substantial. Due to that, the Institute is able to conduct the unique research related to intergenerational trauma transmission and postmemory constructing. The research results are available on the Internet on two portals run by the Institute’s employees: www.swiatsybiru.pl i www.relacjezsybiru.pl.
Within the Sybir Memorial Museum’s Day on May 21, 2025, participants of the EMYA2025 will have the opportunity to get to know activities of the Research Institute of President Seweryn Nowakowski. They will be presented by its employees and many multilingual publications available in the museum’s shop or already mentioned web portals. It will also be a great occasion for inspiring discussions about new possibilities of international cooperation and perspectives for further historical research.
