EMYA2025 – Day Two of the Conference
The second day of the EMYA2025 conference is now behind us. On Friday, participants had the opportunity to attend a series of inspiring presentations delivered by representatives of museums from across Europe.
The morning session explored the role of museums in uniting communities, the current political context in which these institutions operate, and the adoption of socio-ecological approaches –highlighting the complex relationship between nature and technology.
Speakers included representatives from institutions such as the National Naval Museum in Paris, the Museum of Amber – a branch of the Museum of Gdańsk – as well as Ensérune, Oppidum, and the Archaeological Museum (France).
The lineup also featured Basil Kerski, Director of the European Solidarity Centre, along with representatives from the House of Volcanoes, Muzoo in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), the Glacier Garden in Lucerne (Switzerland), and the Natural History Museum (Norway).
The afternoon session was opened by Dominika Mroczkowska-Rusiniak, cultural manager and Polish juror for the EMYA award.
Immediately following her speech, the panel titled “Enhancing Immersive Museum Experiences” began. Moderated by EMYA juror Beat Hächler, the discussion focused on designing immersive museum experiences that not only capture attention but also advance educational and social missions.
Presenters included the Maria Callas Museum (Athens, Greece), the House of Music (Budapest, Hungary), and Salon Stolz (Graz, Austria).
The next segment featured Despina Kanelli – Director of the Salt Museum in Mesolongi and recipient of the 2024 Portimão Museum Prize. Additional presentations were delivered by representatives from the Sainsbury Centre (United Kingdom), the Isbank Museum of Painting and Sculpture (Turkey), and the Arnhem Museum (Netherlands).
The final portion of the day focused on historical narratives and innovative museum approaches. Presentations were delivered by Het Loo Palace (Netherlands), the Savoisien Museum (France), the International Museum of the Reformation (Switzerland), and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Bodrum (Turkey).
The day concluded with a festive dinner and a celebratory concert.
