EMYA2025 — The Sybir Memorial Museum’s Day

On Wednesday, May 21, just before the EMYA2025 sessions, there will be the Sybir Memorial Museum’s Day held. Within this day, not only the collection of the conference packages or registration for the accompanying events will be organized, but the program will also be rich in activities that will definitely be interesting to the Participants, such as: the permanent exhibition tours with the participation of Sybiraks, guided walking tours of Białystok as well as inspiring thematic meetings arranged as workshops and discussions.

Workshops will be led by the employees of the Sybir Memorial Museum, who will share their knowledge and experience. We plan meetings and discussions on the following topics:

  • Conservation of collections — This topic will concern the characteristics of collections, the presentation of exhibits or objects after the restoration. The process of managing their conservation will also be presented.
  • Accessibility — There will be a demonstration of accessibility solutions with the usage of equipment and devices in this field.
  • Relationships with the local community — Activities related to cultivation of the relations with the Sybiraks community will be presented there. The topic combines both – events organized especially for the Sybiraks, and projects realized together with them.
  • Events and education — This area will include the presentation of events and educational activities as well as challenges of their organization. The discussion will concern working with history in the field of education, diverse ways of presenting difficult topics in an engaging and responsible way. The role of cultural events in building the relations with participants will also be discussed there.
  • Scientific activity — This topic will concern an introduction of books published by the Sybir Memorial Museum and presentation of portal: www.swiatsybiru.pl. There will also be a possibility of joining the discussion on the work of the President Seweryn Nowakowski Research Institute.
  • Communication and marketing — It will include exchanging of experience in terms of effective promotional strategies and adapting the message to the diverse visitor groups. The discussion will also be held on combining heritage and remembrance with the newest communication trends.
  • International cooperation — In this area there will be a discussion on sharing the insights regarding the building of an international discourse of timeless experiences of totalitarianisms, forced resettlements, intergenerational traumas, and the dialogue between museum and citizens of the region, country, or the whole world. Exploring possible areas of cooperation with institutions dealing with similar thematic profiles will also be discussed there.
